Use automatic smart tags
Let Rail Cove add a small set of tags to each eligible new capture, then edit or remove them whenever you like.
Automatic tagging
Save a new note, link, image or document while Automatically tag new captures is enabled in Settings. Rail Cove queues tagging for that item only.
Open the saved item and find Tags. Rail Cove adds successful generated tags while preserving existing tags.
Use Add tag or a tag’s Remove control to change the result immediately.
Choose Tag again to generate and apply a fresh set for this item.
What is sent
- The request is limited to the item title, up to 8,000 characters of saved text, as many as 100 current tags, and a sanitized 512-pixel thumbnail for a stored image.
- Rail Cove does not send the whole library, follow a saved remote URL, or run routine OCR for smart tagging.
- Production requests pin the evaluated Mistral model and request OpenRouter’s Mistral Zero Data Retention route with data collection denied and fallback disabled. Rail Cove still stores the saved item, generated tags, legacy suggestions, job state and provenance.
Control and recovery
- If automatic tags are disabled, open Settings → Notifications and enable Automatically tag new captures. Enabling it does not backfill older items.
- If the feature is unavailable, the installation has no approved provider configuration. Your item remains saved and unchanged.
- If generation fails, choose Retry automatic tagging. An ordinary settings change does not process older items; use Tag this item or Tag again when you explicitly want a new job. Legacy stored suggestions remain unapplied.
